The CoolCurrents® air conditioning rate could save you up to 12% on your summer air conditioning bill.
By allowing us to cycle your service briefly by remote control on very hot days or when there is high demand for electricity, you save on your summer air conditioning bill.
The cycles are limited to 15 minutes at a time followed by at least 15 minutes of operation. Cycles are also limited to no more than eight hours in a 24-hour period so the cycling should not noticeably affect the temperature inside your home.
Cycling your air conditioning load may reduce your carbon footprint, helping you become a little greener. It also helps us provide more reliable service for all customers on days when the demand for electricity is particularly high.
To take advantage of this special rate, your central air conditioner or heat pump is wired to a separate meter and radio control unit.
Keep cool and save money, too! Call us at 800.477.4747 to ask about being placed on the D1.1 Interruptible Rate.
How can I tell if my service is being interrupted?
The red light on the radio-control unit mounted near your electric meter will be lit during the "off" portion of the cycling period.
What do I need to do to qualify for the CoolCurrents rate?
An electrician will need to wire your central air conditioner for a separate, CoolCurrents meter.
How much will the wiring cost?
The cost may vary by electrician.
How do I notify DTE Energy once the wiring is in place?
Call 800.477.4747 and advise the customer representative that your air conditioning wiring is complete and a CoolCurrents meter can be installed.
How long does it take for DTE Energy to install the meter after I request it?
It can take up to 30 business days.
Does DTE Energy charge for the CoolCurrents meter?
No. The meter, installation and connecting the air conditioner wire to the meter are free.
Is there a monthly service charge for CoolCurrents?
Yes. A monthly service charge of $1.95 is charged from June through October, but the CoolCurrents rate still provides a savings up to 12% of your normal air conditioning bill.
