The Outdoor Protective Light (OPL) Rate is a supplemental rate that can be used for security lighting.  The lighting is most often installed on Detroit Edison utility poles and positioned to overhang your private property. 

A number of specific  terms and conditions apply to this rate.  The information below is intended to provide an overview only.  For full information, please see Rate Schedule No. D9 in our Rate book*.

This rate may be available to you under the following conditions:

• You are currently taking electric service under one of our standard metered rates.
• The lighting is installed, owned, operated and maintained by Detroit Edison.
• You contract for two to five years of service (length of contract varies by type of installation).
• Your dusk to dawn service is controlled by photo-sensitive devices which provide service every night and all night for approximately 4,200 hours per year.
