How do I enroll with an Alternative Gas Supplier?
You can enroll in the program at any time. A gas supplier may contact you directly, or you can call a supplier yourself at the numbers listed on the Michigan Public Service Commission's Suppliers list. After you enroll with your chosen supplier, that supplier will send the enrollment request to MichCon for processing. If you choose to participate in the GCC program, you must remain a GCC customer for 12- months. If you switch back to buying gas from MichCon after participating in the GCC program, you are required to remain a MichCon customer for 12-months before you can choose a new supplier.

What if I do not want to choose a new supplier?
That is your choice. If you choose to remain with MichCon, no action is required. You will continue to pay MichCon's regulated gas rate, and MichCon will continue to supply the gas.

How can I prevent unwanted switching to a different supplier?
You now have the ability to prevent unwanted switching to a different gas supplier. You can secure your choice of natural gas supplier with our account Lock-In feature. To activate the lock on your account, you simply need to contact the DTE Energy's Call Center at 800.477.4747. Once the lock is activated, your gas account cannot be switched to another gas supplier unless you contact DTE Energy and request that the lock be removed. There is no cost to you to activate or deactivate the lock.

How will I know if my account has been switched?
DTE Energy notifies customers whenever their account is switched to a different supplier. Immediately after your account is enrolled with an AGS, DTE Energy will mail to you a notification postcard. The postcard informs you of the switch, advises you to contact your new supplier with questions, provides the current GCR rate, and provides sources of additional information.

What if I change my mind after choosing a new supplier?
Residential and commercial customers with an annual usage of 5,000 Ccf or less are provided a 30-day unconditional cancellation period. This cancellation period begins the day after you enter into the agreement with the supplier. This 30-day unconditional cancellation right does not apply to commercial customers with annual usage in excess of 5,000 Ccf, unless so specified within the Alternative Gas Supplier's (AGS) contract. At the end of the contract term with the AGS, you may switch to another supplier or return to MichCon gas supply service. However, if you switch before the contract expires, the AGS may charge an early termination or cancellation fee. You should carefully review the contract to determine whether such fees apply.

Is there a cost to switch suppliers?
You can switch to another supplier at any time. However, be sure to ask your potential supplier(s) if a cancellation fee or a minimum term applies. You may change suppliers or return to MichCon gas supply service one time in any 12-month period at no cost. A fee of $10 will be assessed for each additional switch of suppliers or back to MichCon gas supply service within the same 12-month period.

Are the suppliers regulated by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC)?
