At the same time, we will take away and recycle a small fridge or freezer, room air conditioner or dehumidifier and you’ll receive an additional $20.
How it works
You are eligible for Appliance Recycling if you are a current DTE Residential Electric customer.
These are easy steps to follow:
To qualify for $50, the unit must be 10 to 30 cubic feet in size. To receive $20, the fridge or freezer must be under 9.9 cubic feet.

The refrigerator or freezer must be clean, empty, defrosted and in working condition.
Disconnect the unit from water lines before the pick-up team arrives.
Please Note: We cannot accept refrigerators or freezers with cut cords.
The unit must be plugged in, running and disconnected from water lines.
Make sure there is clear and safe passage for removing your appliance(s). The removal team will not risk injury, and they will not move furniture, remove doors or railings or modify your home in any way.
Stairway handrails or barriers must be removed prior to appointment if the unit will not fit through the opening.
All pets must be kept in an enclosed area during the appliance pick-up.
If you are also recycling a dehumidifier or an air conditioner, they must be in working condition and removed at the same time as your refrigerator or freezer.
An adult, 18 years or older, must be present to sign and release the unit at pick-up time.
Maximum two (2) visits per customer site in a calendar year. Each visit is limited to two large appliances (refrigerator and/or freezer) and two small appliances (small fridge or freezer, room air conditioner and/or dehumidifier).
