Top Energy-Saving Upgrades and Rebates for Restaurants

Considering making upgrades to improve your customers’ experience or update inefficient equipment? You can apply for rebates designed to make your next project more affordable. You’ll reduce your out-of-pocket costs and decrease payback time.

Energy-saving opportunities and rebates for restaurants include but are not limited to:

Cafe interior LED lighting

Interior LED Lighting

Compared to incandescent bulbs, ENERGY STAR® certified LED lighting uses up to 90% less energy and lasts up to 25 times longer — that’s up to 15,000 hours — which reduces your maintenance costs. LEDs also generate less heat, which is especially important in your kitchen and dining rooms.

Exterior LED Lighting

Adding or upgrading exterior lighting to LEDs will improve visibility through better color rendering and uniform light distribution. Whether it’s early morning or late at night, this increases safety for your employees and customers. Plus, exterior LEDs help reduce carbon emissions and light pollution.

Strip Curtains

Strip curtains prevent cold air from escaping when loading and unloading your walk-in freezer or cooler, so the quality of your product isn’t impacted. Maintaining a consistent temperature reduces strain on your cooling unit and lowers energy use in your kitchen.

High-Efficiency Hand Dryers

Upgrading to electric hand dryers may have a higher up-front cost than paper towel dispensers, but typically outweigh paper towel in terms of long-term cost savings and maintenance. Plus, energy-efficient hand dryers use 88% less energy than traditional hand dryers and dry hands up to three times faster.

HVAC

HVAC systems generally account for up to 51% of a building’s energy use. Maintaining your HVAC can increase efficiency, reduce unplanned downtime and make your restaurant more comfortable for your employees and customers.

Electronically Commutated Motors (ECMs)

When upgrading to ECMs, consider upgrading the fan blades at the same time to ensure optimal operation of the fans. Many times, the blades are dented or misshapen, causing the new motors to run less efficiently.
