If you have a natural gas meter inside your home or business, we will move it outside to ensure safety and reliability. Moving your meter also increases your privacy and convenience by eliminating the need for us to enter your property to perform maintenance and inspections.
If your natural gas meter is already outside, we may need to perform maintenance on it or the service line that runs to your property. When work is completed, a technician will ask to enter your home to relight appliances and check for leaks.
The meter moves are regulated by the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) and are not optional.
We will contact you when it’s time to move your meter. In Southeast Michigan, our crews go door-to-door to schedule an appointment. If we miss you, we leave a door hanger with a phone number to call. Throughout the rest of the state, we call to arrange a service appointment.
To prepare for your meter move, please make sure:
Our crew members or contractors will present a photo ID badge with a valid expiration date. We comply with current health and safety guidelines.
Please call us with any questions. If you call after hours, leave a message and we will return your call within two business days.
