*For installation Oct. 1 - Dec. 31, 2024.

Considering a whole system upgrade? An additional $500 in bonus rebates are available for DTE combo customers who primarily heat their home with a gas furnace and cool their home with a central AC. A new furnace, AC and thermostat must be installed and meet program eligibility requirements. Make sure to ask your participating contractor if you qualify.

How it works

If you are a DTE residential electric customer, you may be eligible for a rebate when you upgrade to a new, high-efficiency central air conditioning unit.

Visit the Find a Contractor Tool. Enter the home address, city, or zip and select "Air Conditioning Replacement" under the "Services Provided" tab to find a contractor.

Your Participating contractor will:

  • Properly size your system for maximum efficiency and comfort.
  • Remove your old equipment and install your new unit.
  • Fill out and submit a rebate form for you online.
  • Your rebate check will arrive by mail in six to eight weeks.

New construction and first-time installations are not eligible for this program. Air source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps, and ductless mini-split heat pump rebates are only available to electric customers replacing electric heating.

Please consult with your participating contractor regarding system eligibility and efficiency rating requirements.

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures the energy efficiency of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficiently your equipment runs, lowering your energy use and saving you money.

*AHRI eligibility for split system central air conditioners are based on installation of matched outdoor unit, indoor coil and furnace. Rebates are available for air conditioning units with a rating of 14.3 SEER2 or higher. Each requires AHRI certification that, when installed, the package of the equipment meets the specified SEER.  Since these efficiency levels are above those required for ENERGY STAR certification, an efficient furnace upgrade may be necessary to meet the SEER requirement. Air source and ground source heat pumps are eligible for electric customers replacing electric heating.

**Ductless mini-splits are eligible for electric customers replacing electric heating.

† Premise eligibility is limited to single family homes. Single family homes are defined as 2 or less connected units. Each unit must be individually metered for natural gas and electric and each unit must have its own heating, cooling and water heating equipment.

   Air Conditioner Tips

Shade & Clean Your Unit

Make sure your unit is shaded from direct sunlight. An outdoor unit operating in the shade uses up to 10% less electricity than the same unit operating in the sun. While you’re outside, optimize your central air unit’s efficiency by keeping it clean and clear of debris.

Clean or Replace Filters

Change your air filter regularly. Check your filter every month, especially during heavy use months. At a minimum, change the filter every 3 months. A dirty filter slows air flow and makes the system work harder to keep you cool, wasting energy.

Programmable Savings

With a programmable thermostat you can automatically adjust your home temperature for different times of day or when you’re away from home. You can also pre-set to start cooling your home before you arrive. You save by not wasting energy. Ask your contractor about rebates on programmable thermostats.
